Adbri recognised my curiosity for business, economics and engineering and have given me very broad exposure to finance as well as engineering

Why did you join Adbri?

I joined Adbri because I knew I would get diversity of experience and broad career choices. I graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2020 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Finance and joined Adbri in the Finance stream of their Graduate program.

Adbri recognised my curiosity for business, economics and engineering and have given me very broad exposure to finance as well as engineering through rotations with our technical team at Birkenhead and with our Sustainability team helping to drive our net carbon zero strategy.

At the moment I am supporting both our production and financial teams to improve and automate reporting capability.

What skills do you need to do your job?

Working with data requires logical reasoning, computer literacy and an open-minded approach to learn from your mistakes; and lastly patience!

Recently I have been working with the IT Department to implement changes to the raw data and its flow from the data warehouse to the data model in our reporting tools. While I didn’t study computer science, I have learnt how to code through experience to broaden my skillset.

What is the coolest thing about your job?

Providing the business with the tools to detect new areas of financial or production efficiency and seeing those results flow through.

Adbri supports flexible working, I regularly work from home and don’t need to work on the weekends.

What would you tell a student embarking on a graduate program?

Don’t be stubborn and ask for help! This will also help you manage your time efficiently.

Sell your skills, but you don’t need an answer for every interview question, it shows character to admit faults or lack of experience.
