Your role:

As an Electronics Engineer, you’ll be one of the Navy’s electrical and combat systems experts, working onboard ships and ashore. You’ll lead a team that maintains a variety of systems and equipment, including radar, sonar, communication, navigation, combat and weapons systems. 

If you’re already studying or ready to study a job-relevant degree at your choice of accredited university, you can join the Navy and have your fees paid for. You’ll earn a salary while you complete your degree and walk straight into a Navy role following graduation. 

The professional development you gain as a Navy Engineer enables automatic Chartered Professional Engineer accreditation with Engineers Australia, giving you international recognition of your engineering competency.  

Your duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and looking after your team of engineering personnel
  • Computer systems and networks 
  • Radar and satellite systems
  • Electronic warfare systems
  • Navigation systems
  • Underwater systems
  • Weapons and torpedo systems
  • Surveillance systems 
  • Communications systems

Salary: 
When you first join the Navy and while studying for your degree at the university of your choice, you will be paid between $35,326 and $54,166 depending on your year of study. 

Upon completion of your degree, initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $100,845.

For this role, you must be over 17 at time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen and be able to provide evidence that you are enrolled in or studying a Bachelor of Engineering in either Avionics, Communications/Telecommunications, Computer Systems, Electrical/Electronics, Electrical (Power), Mechatronics or Software.
