Your role

AIG Underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, and Multinational Clients. They are reimagining how they help customers to manage risk, transforming their operating model and reshaping their role responsibilities and career pathways. The goal is to unlock the full potential in each colleague – empowering people to grow as insurance professionals and add more value to customers and AIG.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Property, you will contribute to the success of the Commercial Property profit centre by underwriting a sustainable and profitable portfolio of Commercial Property business within corporate underwriting guidelines and within granted underwriting authority

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Assisting underwriters in evaluating insurance applications for property coverage.
  • Review property risk submissions and determine if they meet underwriting guidelines, relevant underwriting authority and AIG principles.
  • Conducting research and analysis on properties, including inspections and assessments.
  • Gathering and verifying information from various sources, such as clients, agents, and databases.
  • Assisting in the preparation of underwriting reports and proposals.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as claims and sales, to ensure accurate risk assessment.
  • Providing support in policy issuance and endorsement processes.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of underwriting activities.
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends, regulations, and changes in underwriting guidelines.
  • Providing excellent customer service to clients and agents, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.

About you

What you’ll need to succeed

  • AIG seeks candidates who have demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and are enthusiastic about and committed to the insurance industry.
  • Candidates who have graduated within the last 2 years or a junior professional with less than 2 years’ work experience that is seeking a new career path within the commercial Property underwriting space.
  • Excellent computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • A curious nature and a customer service mindset with good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Enthusiastic team player with the ability to optimise business values to clients by delivering high-quality services and positive client experiences to sustain and enhance the customer base.
  • Passion for customer service excellence and ability to build, develop and maintain positive relationships
  • High level of initiative and ability to prioritise tasks in an agile environment along with excellent time management and organisational ability.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyse data and use it for decision-making
  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Economics or Law would be desirable.
