Pros & Cons

  • Various external events/activities to be involved in outside your usual work/team, for example, becoming a mentor/buddy to interns/cadets/other graduates, participate as a mentor in a university partnership program, help organise company events, social activities, development learning workshops
  • The Graduate Program. Highly tailored, with great mentors and support network.
  • I have a great deal of autonomy and flexibility. It's great to feel trusted and supported to manage my time and my workload in a way that works best for me.
  • The emphasis on learning throughout the graduate program.
  • The culture is very positive and inclusive. I felt welcomed immediately and I have gained many friends.
  • Not being able to work in the office (but makes sense due to Covid situation)
  • During busy periods, it can be difficult to find someone who is available to help.
  • Making change takes much review and forward planning - though is expected of an insurance company
  • Working in financial services (industry issue more so than company issue) there is a lot of legacy systems and older technology which can be frustrating.
  • Having to juggle working full-time and studying to be a Chartered Accountant.

Career Prospects
Graduates looked upon with high regard. Promotion opportunities after the program is finished. Expectation that we will be accelerated slightly in career progression due to our program's benefits. Hard work obviously still needed, and attention to detail. All jobs are internally recruited as well as externally advertised, so there is always opportunity to move up/across. There is also the opportunity to work abroad, since the company is global.

Management
All my managers have been great. They've been invested in my development and have always made time and found ways to support me. They have all trusted me to manage my workload and time, and encouraged me to pursue opportunities I was interested in. Even after my rotations in their areas, they still reach out to see how I'm going.

Office Work Environment
The Sydney office is brand new, open plan and arranged in neighborhoods so that you can sit with colleagues from the same division. We have access to excellent change rooms and showers, two cafes in the building and free yoga/Pilates classes offered by the building. There are also weekly deals on food etc. from business near the building. Our dress code is business casual, with the exception of client meetings in which case we are asked to wear business attire.

Allianz has partnered with Development Beyond Learning and their programs have helped me to grow in my soft skills along with my work skills. They have good onboarding training as well.

Work Hours
Usually 9 to 5, occasionally I feel the need to work a bit longer. My hours are flexible, I can start/finish early or late, and I can work from home if I need to. I can take longer breaks and make up the time later.
