Our team huddles together to discuss the model and the results. We then put together an action plan to change the design and submit it for analysis.

8.00 AM

I catch the train into South Cross Station in the city. It’s only a minute walk from there to the office. On my way in I see some of the security infrastructures my team designs like gates, bollards and street furniture blending into our cityscape.

I get into the office, grab a desk and check my emails. I’ll then check out our FEA model that was running overnight. It’s a computer model performing computational design to make sure safety and security infrastructure are strong enough to protect our city.

Meeting

12.00 PM

It’s lunch time so I head out to grab sushi and bring it back to Arup eats – an area of the office where you can cook, relax or hang out. There’s always snacks in the kitchen so I pick up an apple for later.

I finish work on the model and our FEA mesh changes have progressed well. I submit the design for analysis.

Modelling

2.00 PM

I help a few team members with odd jobs like creating graphics and process automation. It’s a great way to help and learn about their work. Today is coding a way to automatically display crime statistics.

I check in to see how the first 10 – 20% of the analysis is running and if there are any glaring issues. It’s performing well!

I join my team for an afternoon of board games. We do this once a week to connect and have mid-way through the week.

I get home before sunset so I can go for a walk to finish the day.
