We are looking for Building Science, or Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering students to be based in the following locations: 

  • Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland 
  • Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington 

This role will sit in the Building Services business unit.

We provide multi-disciplinary specialisations in the buildings team encompassing an array of Engineers including Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Hydraulic, Sustainability, Facades and Fire Protection Engineers.

As a Sustainable Buildings Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our experienced engineers and contribute to groundbreaking projects. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Conducting energy audits and assessments to identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements. 
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of sustainable building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and renewable energy systems. 
  • Collaborating with project teams to analyze and optimize building materials and construction methods to reduce carbon impacts 
  • Participating in green building certification processes, such as Green Star, Homestar and NABERSNZ 
  • Assisting in the development of sustainability reports, proposals, and presentations for clients. 

What are we looking for from you? 

Steps to success below! 

You'll be ready to make an impact. You will be studying towards a formal qualification and be in either your 2nd or 3rd year of study. You will need to have the ability to work on a full-time basis from November 2023 until February 2024. 

We'll need you to be studying towards this degree: Bachelor of Building Science, ideally from Victoria University, Wellington OR a degree in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering (or a related field). 

You would have studied or are studying following subjects or areas of focus: 

  • An understanding of sustainable building practices, green design principles, and energy efficiency concepts 
  • Proficiency in CAD software and energy modelling tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, EnergyPlus). 

And you will bring: 

  • Passion for changing the way we deliver carbon neutrality and sustainability in everything we do. 
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with both your peers and clients to push forward the boundaries of what is possible. 
  • Enthusiasm for re-imagining engineering and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future. 
  • Excitement about your journey with Aurecon.

This step should take up to 1 hour to complete and requires a mix of written and video responses. Please make sure you are in a quiet, well-lit area with a strong internet connection before you start the assessment. During this stage we love to see your passions and motivations in your video responses. 

Step 3: Interview 

If you are selected to progress to the final stage you will be invited for an interview in person or virtually, depending on locations. After the interview process has concluded offers to the successful candidates will be made and contracts issued.
