Rachel Tan

I have weekly catch-ups with this colleague where we generally go through topics/material of my choice.

5.30 AM

I wake up and get ready to catch the 6:40 am train to Brisbane. I live in the Gold Coast, so it takes me about 1.5 hours to get into the office!

8.15 AM

After the 1 hour 20-minute train ride and a 10-minute walk I arrive at the office. I set my desk up, go through emails, browse the news, and plan tasks for the day.

9.00 AM

I have a weekly online call with my manager. I am based in Brisbane but the rest of my team is in Sydney – so a lot of our communications are through video calls and messages! We talk through how I am finding tasks and I give a quick overview of my planned week.

9.30 AM

start working through a model assessment from a bank. This is one of the tasks I am working on – it involves assessing models that banks submit for the purpose of calculating regulatory capital. We ensure the models are compliant with the standards as well as fit for purpose.

10.30 AM

I go for a quick coffee run with a few colleagues (after we debate about which café we should go to lol).

11.00 AM

I have a meeting with a colleague in my team to go through the model assessment I am working on. I have heaps of questions since it’s my first one! We go through the questions and quickly talk about progress/timelines for the report.

12.00 PM

I head to the Brisbane City Markets at Cathedral Square with a few colleagues for lunch. We sit around the open area with our market food under the sun!

1.00 PM

I finish up some notes from a training session I had with a team member. I have weekly catch-ups with this colleague where we generally go through topics/material of my choice. Since my current team is quite technical, there is a lot of content for me to learn! So we use these catch-ups as mini training sessions.

2.30 PM

I have a call with a colleague in my team for another task I’m working on. This is a semi-annual task which involves reporting and presenting the model assessment activity within the team to an internal committee. I ask a few questions about getting the data for this task.

4.00 PM

I do some work for the Social Club. I’m responsible for scheduling fortnightly social drinks in the Sydney office (even though I am based in Brisbane haha).

4.30 PM

I continue working on the model assessment.

5.15 PM

I walk to the train station and make the journey back to the Gold Coast.

7.30 PM

If I’m up for it I’ll go to the gym with my friends or play social badminton!

10.30 PM

Scroll through Instagram for a good 30 minutes before I finally sleep.
