A Career in Financial Management Consulting (FMC)

As part of the Financial Management Consulting (FMC) team, you'll have the opportunity to be part of a team that consults with Boards, CEOs and CFOs for the provision of advice and support to clients across a broad range of finance requirements.

This may include the establishment of finance functions for new entities, implementation or improvement of accounting systems, processes and procedures; assistance with financial, management or project reporting and ongoing accounting and taxation requirements. 

Our FMC Vacationer Program will give you the opportunity to:

  • Receive exposure to a variety of client industries and needs
  • Get hands-on experience in business advisory, planning, compliance & financial reporting
  • Work alongside a highly experienced and supportive team, and receive excellent training and support over your Vacation program period from buddies and Managers
  • Engage in regular social activities enabling you to meet and connect with our people
  • Participate in tailored peer group initiatives with your Vacation cohort
  • Build practical work experience within a global firm where exceptional service delivery, collaboration, empathy and integrity are part of our culture and values (ONE, BOLD, HUMAN, HEART and STRIVE) grow your accounting and consulting skills in a professional services environment

About You

To apply for our 2023, FMC Vacation Program welcomes students that:

  • Are in their penultimate year (or have 18-24 months left) of a Business or Commerce degree, majoring in accounting
  • Display solid academic achievement
  • Are involved in extra-curricular activities
  • Are a dynamic team player with an innovative approach to work and life
  • Display a motivated approach to continuous learning and development
  • Are you an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of application

Checking emails, liaising with clients to receive information on their R&D activities, writing/drafting activities according to AusIndustry guidelines/ITAA legislation. Calculating financial incentives and meeting with clients.

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
