About Beon, CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy

Beon, CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy is an Australian electricity distribution company that operates throughout western Victoria and the western suburbs of Melbourne. The company owns and maintains power lines, substations, and street lights and manages Victoria's largest electricity distribution network.

Your role

The electricity industry is going through significant transformation and their businesses are at the centre of it. Supporting a clean energy future, the electricity networks provide a gateway to renewable technologies such as solar, batteries and EVs for 1.9 million Victorian customers.

Managing and operating the networks effectively is dependent on technology. They keep the networks safe and secure through best-practice IT security measures and work proactively to ensure their networks are fit for additional capacity and growth. They do this using data analytics, machine learning and knowledge built through years of practical expertise while promoting a culture of continuous learning.

Opportunities may include project delivery, application management, dev-ops, analytics and commercial/governance streams and potentially some non-IT streams such as technical engineering. You will experience a range of technologies and tools including Python (data analytics). SQL (database), Windows PowerShell (scripting) WireShark and Splunk (security)

You’ll have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including:

  • Cybersecurity: Providing IT support and oversight to ensure security of IT and business assets
  • Project delivery: Implementing technology projects across the business to enhance how they work and operate the electricity network
  • Application management: Conduct, support and improve IT applications, and select, design and develop digital business solutions
  • Dev-ops: Designing, building and operating software including coding
  • Analytics: Business analysis, data analytics and testing to ensure IT solutions meet business requirements
  • Commercial and governance: Reporting on IT performance including budgets, dashboards and KPIs to the CIO and stakeholders
  • Technical engineering streams: Testing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking systems

You’ll have the chance to work on some of the 100 capital projects in flight. This could include optimising their web-based customer portal, implementing new technologies that allow them to better prevent, detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents, or crunching data collected by drones to assess the health of the network assets.

Training & development

You will undertake rotations within your core discipline, along with developing wider business knowledge, to give you maximum exposure and a truly immersive experience.

During your six-monthly rotations up to three years, you could be part of:

  • Building new mobile, digital and automated services improving the speed of access to services for the customers
  • Contributing to the development of the technical backbone of their infrastructure enabling, managing, and monitoring the two-way flow of power
  • Assisting to strengthen IT security, protecting Victoria’s critical infrastructure from external threats
