Management at BP Australia

8.7
8.7 rating for Management, based on 64 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Managers are very helpful and always willing to provide feedback and support. Graduates are also provided with a mentor who is not their direct manager, which is also a great way to receive additional support, feedback and learn about other parts of the business.

Yes I am satisfied with my managers, they are very accessible and good mentors. There is little feedback given however though this is often driven by myself asking as opposed to freely given by my manager.

My Line Manager is incredible and has supported me as a mentor and ensured my career development.
Graduate, Perth, WA - 30 Oct 2023
After talking with other graduates and hearing how their managers are with them, my manager is very different. I don't have many touchpoints with my manager and I don't get that mentorship aspect from them, which I would have really valued especially being in my first year. They are also quite senior so very busy and not that easy to get a hold of.

I am overall satisfied with my managers. They are fairly accessible and their mentoring is very useful. They are also personable and relatable rather than being stiff and distant. Communication is also good, and they provide plenty of feedback.

There is a significant information silo at BP. Management do not share strategic information with staff.

Probably depends on your manager, specifically, but my line managers/bosses are amazing. Even when flexible working, always ensures to have time for me. Great with follow-up. Provides, clear, valuable and constructive feedback and recommends and authorises relevant and useful learning material. Makes a great mentor. Other people in the organisation constantly reaching out to my manager for guidance and assistance and they are always willing to help. They invite input into work being undertaken, and are happy to answer or question a lot of the 'why' questions about why we do things.

Some managers are not very accessible - I'm lucky that mine is as she has made it a point to be accessible.

For the most part managers are accessible and teams are supportive of graduates. Support network are available in the form of mentors, buddy's, team members and graduates from past and present cohorts.
Graduate, Melbourne - 23 May 2017
Managers are usually extremely busy but are happy to put aside time to talk if you have any concerns and to provide feedback, praise and recognition. Higher level seniors are usually not accessible.
Graduate, Melbourne - 22 May 2017
Departmental structure is quite flat (reflected in open plan seating) making management visible and accessible. Internal communication is made via email, Yammer, and regular village and town halls. Performance feedback and praise and recognition varies by department and team (more informal in Sales & Marketing, more formal in Finance). Managers make excellent mentors in their attitudes, knowledge and skills.
Graduate, Melbourne - 22 May 2017
High level management is very accessible and an effort is made to have a relationship between the upper and lower level roles. There is the opportunity to ask questions and advice from higher management and a large number of informal opportunities.
Graduate, Perth - 19 May 2017
Managers are generally very accessible, although it depends on the department. There is a formal feedback process and also many opportunities to ask for feedback in-between. I have had very positive experiences with my managers - very supportive and they have given me some big opportunities. I can always ask for help if I need it though. The senior managers have regular formats and avenues for providing feedback on company-wide performance too. There is formal salary bonus recognition and also the opportunity for spot bonuses - however these are not a regular thing.
