What's your job about?
Enterprise Fintech Solutions department is in-charge of coordinating with our clients (such as banks) and our Technology department to design and produce platforms to help provide supply-chain financing (SCF) services. I joined when we were about to close a project, so I experienced how we finished testing the new platform enhancements, then moved on to planning and designing a new platform. Tasks that I have done include creating platform enhancements, testing end-to-end flows, researching on companies, reporting bugs and designing webpages. In addition, I was tasked with conducting market research, which included understanding user needs and wants as well as market trends in order to better gain a fuller understanding of our market too.
However, my job was not all about work. We also had many out-of-working-hours activities, including having Korean Barbeque Dinner, Chinese Hotpot lunch, company bowling, and badminton tournament planned for this weekend.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes. I am studying Mechanical Engineering while interning in a Fintech company. When I first joined, there were many jargons which I had to search online and it took me a while to fully understand what CapBay does. But after asking many questions, I roughly wrapped my mind around what is going on. My supervisor told me about these important things: “I expect yourself to self-learn and explore and pick things up relatively quickly”, and “proactive communication / updates upwards is important to me”.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
The most interesting task that I had done was creating a tracker form on google sheets to help keep track of our clients. I knew what columns I had to make and what went into them, but my supervisor never specified how to do it or gave me a deadline. I really enjoyed the freedom when designing that document, but I may have gone a bit overboard trying to make it perfect by adding very complicated function to automate the document. I feel bad for the future intern who needs to add enhancements onto that sheet!
What are the limitations of your job?
I would say the EFS department is one of the most integral departments to our financing services. This means that every week, I am tasked with different types of task such as web designing, bug testing, creating presentations, conducting company research, creating forms etc. On top of that, my supervisor is normally very busy, which means that I must be extra independent and try to understand the task by myself while waiting on her response.
