Catholic Education Tasmania provides a Kindergarten to Year 12 education based on Gospel values. Our 38 Catholic schools and colleges offer early learning, kindergarten, primary school, high school, and senior secondary education to nearly 16,000 students across Tasmania.

Most of our schools and colleges are co-educational, with single sex learning options for all-boys and all-girls also available for students in the greater Hobart area.

Early years learning is also provided at many of our primary schools through our birth to five program Setup for Success.

Students attending Tasmanian Catholic senior colleges have access to a range of Vocational Education and Training opportunities.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO WORK IN CATHOLIC EDUCATION TASMANIA

All staff are required to hold current Working with Vulnerable People registration.

All non-teaching employees and nominated volunteers within Catholic schools are required to take part in the Police Check process. Police checks are conducted every three years (maximum) or as required by changes in job/task responsibilities.

All teachers need to hold, at a minimum, a four-year Bachelor of Education and be registered through the Teachers Registration Board Tasmania. Teachers must be registered before they can commence employment in an ongoing, replacement, limited tenure or relief position.

All staff are required to meet the Accreditation status appropriate to their position. To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school requires a commitment from teachers to work towards achieving the requirements for Full Accreditation C. Recruitment Process

Available Positions:

CET recruit for teaching positions within schools that have a primary and secondary component (K-6, K-10, K-12, Senior Secondary).

Types and tenure of positions offered include:

  • Ongoing: Part and Full Time
  • Limited Tenure: Special Projects - Part and Full Time
  • Limited Tenure: Leave and Parental Leave Replacement - Part and Full Time

Please note: Parental Leave Employment is a period of employment for the purposes of replacing a current employee on Parental Leave. It is subject to variation or change in the event that the employee taking Parental Leave exercises their right to return to work earlier than stipulated. In that instance you will be given a minimum of four (4) weeks' notice of termination of the Parental Leave position.

Applications:

Applications are accepted in two different methods:

  1. Via the CET online recruitment platform accessible via the CET website. When commencing your application please ensure that you allocate enough time to complete your application, keeping in mind that there will be many candidates submitting at the same or similar time.
  2. Application are submitted directly to the individual school

Interviews:

Candidates may be interviewed for more than one position at more than one school and may have more than one interview. Generally, these interviews will be face-to-face and will focus on the key aspects of the role and will take approx 40-50 minutes. Candidates may be asked to respond to a scenario that is designed to show teaching practice in a classroom setting.

Candidates will be advised via email of the successful or unsuccessful status of their application. Candidates who are successful in gaining an interview are required to confirm via return email of their attendance.

Interviews will be during a scheduled time period and due to the number of interviews and panel member availability, it may not be possible to re-schedule or change interview times.

Interstate candidates will be interviewed via Zoom. If you are offered an interview, please ensure that you are familiar with this communication platform.

Employment Offers:

Successful candidates will be offered one (1) position.

Unsuccessful candidates may be placed in the talent pool.

  • Talent Pool: Candidates that are unsuccessful in securing a position or decline a first offer, will be placed into a talent pool.

An Employment Contract will be issued with a specific acceptance and return date. If the employment contract is not returned by this date, the offer of employment will be withdrawn.

New Employees to Catholic Education Tasmania will be required to undertake a system Induction program as well as a school site specific Induction prior to commencement.

This Induction will include: Child Safe Training, Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School, Employee Obligations and Technology, and Work, Health and Safety.

FINAL CHECK LIST FOR APPLICATIONS

Before submitting your application, use this checklist to ensure you have prepared all important documents. In particular, check that you have:

  • Read the Role Description, which contains the Selection Criteria.
  • Included a brief cover letter stating the reasons why you are seeking a position within Catholic Education Tasmania
  • Addressed the Key Result Areas / Essential Selection Criteria detailed in the role description. This must be done to be considered for the vacant position/s. Applicants that do not address the Essential Selection Criteria cannot be considered for the position/s.
  • Included a current Resume, which should include a brief employment history stating where you have worked, the length of service and brief description of the position(s) held and duties undertaken.

Additional information, i.e. transcripts, certificates etc. may be required by the selection panel if called to interview

Remuneration & Career Growth

Remuneration for Teachers is outlined in the Enterprise Agreement, Tasmanian Catholic Single Enterprise Agreement 2018, and is based on qualifications and previous relevant experience in accordance with the EA.

On appointment, Teachers with no previous relevant experience shall commence on the following salary leave in accordance with their qualifications.

  • Less than four-year trained - Level 1
  • Four-year trained - Level 4
  • Bachelor of Education with Honours - Level 5
  • Five or more years trained - Level 5

Teachers employed on a full-time basis will progress annually on the anniversary of their appointment.

Part-time teachers will progress according to specific clauses in the EA.

Positions of Leadership are available to teachers and attracts allowances as per the EA. These positions are for a specific time period and are generally in the area of specification e.g Religious Education Coordinator, Early Years Coordinator, Deputy Principal.

Professional Learning

Professional Learning is available to all employees and is offered in different modes and methods, including online, face-to-face, conference etc.
