6.00 AM

I’m a creature of habit, I wake up every morning at 6:00 AM and have a hearty breakfast. Who doesn’t love smashed avocado on toast and coffee?

7.30 AM

I’ve just arrived on-site at New Footscray Hospital - one of the state’s largest-ever health infrastructure investments. Honeywell is a System Design and Integration consultant, so our responsibilities are broad and diverse.

8.00 AM

After sifting through my emails, I catch up with the Lead Engineer and Project Director. This is a timely opportunity for me to flag any ongoing challenges I’m facing, request more tasks, or receive an update on how other elements of the project are progressing.

8.30 AM

It’s important to retain visibility of the entire project, I join the Site Manager to inspect how our subcontractors and the overall build are developing. In construction, the project schedule, budget, forecasting, costs, and resources are constantly evolving. So, it’s important to have a finger on the pulse to ensure we hit project milestones and deadlines.

It’s time to sink my teeth into some more work! At the beginning of the week, I plan out my tasks so I can allocate my time and stay productive. I’m currently helping produce a scope of works document for our subcontractors to detail their responsibilities. My team is quick to respond to any questions I have.

I’m getting pretty hungry! My entire team usually eat together, it’s a great way for all of us to catch up.

12.45 PM

After a good recharge over lunch, it’s time to start working on some electrical wiring drawings. The first three buildings have reached structural completion, so fit-out will start soon. I have been tasked with detailing the design of some electrical panels. These will be sent to our subcontractors for supply and installation.

It’s time to jump into a meeting with some of the key consortium members! A huge perk of working on-site is that we can quickly facilitate meetings with other consultants and trades. It’s a conducive work environment for all parties involved.

The Building Management System (BMS) delivery gives you a holistic perspective of the entire project. We have to liaise with a variety of stakeholders and are accountable for the successful delivery of systems ranging from weather stations to lifts! Understanding how they all intimately connect is an advantageous construction industry skillet.

3.00 PM

As the workday draws to a close, I’ll start completing some loose ends, and other miscellaneous errands and check my emails again before I leave the office.

4.00 PM

It’s time to head to the athletics track! I’ll quickly review my diary and make any necessary changes to my scheduling for the rest of the week too.

4.45 PM

Athletics is a big part of my life. More often than not, you’ll find me at the gym or running after work. Honeywell offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements, so I can pursue my passions/interests outside of work too.  I’m currently recovering from a nasty hamstring injury, so I’ll be doing a lot of rehabs today.
