Graduate Policy Advisors

  • Permanent, full-time opportunity
  • Wellington-based

Imagine a not-too-distant future, applying your knowledge and enthusiasm to help shape tax and social policies that positively impact the lives of New Zealanders. It's something you can make happen... soon. And it's work that will have a direct impact on the economic and social well-being of the nation, not to mention the health of your career.

You'll be part of the passionate team that makes up our Policy and Regulatory Stewardship Group – a welcoming, inclusive team focused on advising Government on a wide range of tax and social policy matters. As part of this, you can look forward to getting involved in a broad range of things, from conducting research and developing policy options to preparing legislation and providing support throughout the legislative process.

It's a great chance to put your strong academic background into action, and to really showcase your skill for critical and conceptual thinking skills, engaging with stakeholders, and effectively communicating complex ideas. In return for what you bring to us you can expect to be part of an inclusive work environment with great flexibility, development opportunities, and the chance to bring your whole self to work and thrive alongside us.

If you will graduate this year or have graduated within the past three years, we want to hear from you. Start dates are flexible for candidates available to begin sooner, but most roles will commence in early 2025.

Please apply online, attaching a copy of your CV and cover letter outlining how you meet the role requirements.

As part of the application, we would also like you to upload the following:

  • Your complete academic transcript or a copy of your unofficial transcript if you have not yet graduated
  • A short sample of your work that demonstrates your writing ability (e.g. an excerpt of an essay written for a university course) this should be no longer than three pages

Applications close 9:00 am, Monday 27th May 2024

Aspects of internal business processes are things that my degree has given me background on, so I have supplemented my role, but it’s been more of a learning experience so far.

I am involved in both internal & external projects; this has helped me learn more about IR. Last but not the least, we have a great team culture. We share our learnings, work collaboratively & support each other.
