If the above sounds like you, then look no further – Inland Revenue is seeking Graduate Customer Compliance Specialists to commence in February 2024.

You will be part of a Graduate team operating from the Auckland and Wellington offices.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are looking for graduates who, along with strong academic backgrounds and other complementary skills, can bring diverse perspectives to Inland Revenue. The ideal candidate will have the ability to solve problems by thinking critically and conceptually, engage well with stakeholders, work collaboratively in teams, and communicate complex ideas effectively. 

Using your accounting or commerce related qualification and with support, you will provide tax and social policy technical support and advice to improve customer experience and long-term compliance, and champion IR’s customer-centric and intelligence-led culture.  

In this varied Graduate role, you will be supported to:

  • Provide customer service across a variety of products both proactively and reactively to improve customers outcomes.
  • Use available information and intelligence to understand the customer’s situation, to negotiate (where appropriate) and resolve disputes and compliance issues.
  • Identify and analyse compliance risks; select and implement appropriate responses including the use of investigative techniques or education to ensure the right business and customer outcomes.
  • Provide tax and social policy technical support and advice to internal and external customers to provide certainty and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and audit practices.
  • Prepare case work activity connecting with Legal Services for legal enforcement to support long-term customer compliance.
  • Work in a networked way across IR and the use insights gained to develop solutions for customers.

Mōu | About you As a Graduate, you will be working towards the following attributes:

  • Curiosity to discover, gather, analyse and connect diverse pieces of information to problem solve and understand commercial or business activities.
  • The ability to effectively manage interactions with customers in a timely manner, including undertaking enquiries using different activities and/or communication methods.
  • Working cooperatively with customers to provide certainty of tax positions, both before and after return filing.
  • Be flexible, adaptable, and non-judgemental in their approach in order the achieve the right outcome for the circumstances.
  • A willingness to use new technology and innovative compliance intervention approaches to assist them in their work.
  • Well organised with strong time management skills.
  • Display resilience even when a challenge or setback arises.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and or role experience that evidences credibility.

Inland Revenue plays a critical role in improving the economic and social wellbeing of New Zealanders. We do this by collecting and distributing money, we collect 80% of the Crown’s revenue and distribute social support payments. 

Customer Compliance Services, Business (CCS–B) and Individuals (CCS-I) help businesses to pay the right amount of tax at the right time, from customers of Micro Business and Not-for-Profits, Small to Medium Enterprises and Significant Enterprises. 

Our people make tax compliance simpler by giving support and providing confident, accurate advice around complex and global tax issues. We work with a range of other agencies within New Zealand and internationally to provide connected services and reduce costs to customers and the government.
