About ISO

Pilbara ISOCo Limited is the government appointed independent system operator for the North-West Interconnected System (NWIS), an electricity grid serving mining, industrial, commercial and residential loads in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The functions of the Pilbara ISOCo are set out in Part 8A of the Electricity Industry Act 2004 and the Pilbara Network Rules. Among other things, the Pilbara ISOCo is responsible for maintaining and improving the security of the power system and facilitating network coordination and planning.

The Company was registered in June 2021 as an incorporated not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001. The current members of Pilbara ISOCo are the three interconnected registered network services providers – APA, Horizon Power and Rio Tinto.

About the Role

Assist in providing engineering advice to assess power system capability and ensure the security and reliability of the Pilbara electricity network.

This will include:

  • Support with development and administration of network constraint rules
  • Assist in the management, maintenance of and operation of the NWIS DIgSILENT PowerFactory model
  • Participate in the development of Procedures and Guides
  • Assist ISO Control Desk with pre and post contingent protocols
  • Collection and publication of registration and standing data
  • ISO Control desk contract management
  • Assist with post-incident investigations
  • Manage the Visibility List
  • Learn project, stakeholder and risk management skills
  • Working with external and internal stakeholders – NSPs, access seekers, government departments
  • Develop oral and written communication, analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.

About the Applicant

Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia) desirable, undergraduates within 1-2 semesters of completion also encouraged to apply.

  • Proficiency in use of software and developing software skills.
  • Knowledge of Australian electrical standards and mining safety regulations.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to work cooperatively in team environment.
  • Understand how to manage and deliver multiple priorities effectively.
  • Australian working rights.
