Application Process & Interviews at Susquehanna International Group

The interview process had 5 steps: application, quantitative assessment, recruiter interview, case study, in person interview & in-office desk rotation. i especially enjoyed the case study and desk rotation as it gave me a much better understanding of the role.

Maths test, then a couple more interviews with a few more maths questions.

Process was rigorous, which was good as it enabled me to understand more about the role and the company. 1) simple application - no cv was required 2) online finance/math screener (short basic aptitude test) 3) phone interview with recruiter 4) case study - basically a task designed to emulate the day to day work we do. 5) on site interview and office tour (got to spend some time on the trading floor which was great) 6) interview with a member of the team from another office

Had a mix of online, on phone, and in person interviews that covered a variety of things, but mainly focusing on expected value.

Online assessment followed by 3 phone interviews and the final round interview is onsite. All interviews are technical.

Very thorough and reasonable. Also, surprisingly enjoyable.

Challenging and thorough

Online assessment, three rounds of technical interviews and one round of behavioral interview.

To join as tech graduate, you start with an online coding assessment (usually 2 leetcode style problems). After, there is a behavioural interview phone call. Next, there is a live online coding assessment. Finally, there are two back-to-back in office interviews (one system design, one with your potential manager).

The interview process was excellent. The questions asked were relevant to the job, and the interviewers were respectful. There was an initial phone screening after an online assessment. There was then an online technical, followed by an in-person final round technical and behavioral interview. I was an interstate candidate, and the company flew me out and paid for my accommodation.

Two phone interviews. First very general focused on motivation and educations, second probability questions only. Two in person interviews. First probability and general resume assessment. Second fit only.

3 phone interviews (one with sydney office and two with the education team in usa) and one face-to-face interview in sydney

Thorough assessment of abilities in multiple aspects. Multiple rounds of phone interviews, followed by a on-site interview.

I was asked a lot of questions on events (both macroeconomic and for single stocks) and how i think those scenarios will play out in various products, indices, and stock price, as well as probabilities of those scenarios. i was also asked probability / math brain teasers, for a few stock pitches, what stories i follow in markets, my motivations and skillset, and general market knowledge questions.

The questions in the interviews revolved around understanding of what is going on in the markets (e.g. Recent news and events, how prices move in different situations)

Primarily math based problem solving questions.

Some personal questions especially earlier on in the process. Later on, more focused on math, problem solving and logical thinking.

Questions about current affairs, finance and a few questions designed to get me to think like a research analyst (e.g. "how would you think about this hypothetical event"). There was also some questions around my interests outside the workplace, which was good.

Some standard statistics/probability questions that relate betting type games and expected value.

Brain teasers, probability / expected value, decision making

The questions were all standard behavioural/technical questions. For example, where do you see yourself in 5 years, your opinions on technical practices, etc...

I was asked to solve a very practical problem unsupervised. The interviewers then asked me about my working solution at various points. This is much more similar to how you would solve a problem on the job. i was also asked a design question in my final round. The behavioral round focused on my resume and personality and gave me an opportunity to ask questions about the company.

Mathematics, statistics, basic game theory, options.

General programming principals and logic puzzles

Be on top with the news and the trends that are moving markets. If you have a particular interest in a certain theme or story, dig deep into that topic and be really knowledgeable about it and show your passion in the interviews. also be familiar with general market and corporate finance knowledge, and what the impact of certain events are on on prices - eg m&a, litigations.

Be somewhat reasonable at maths and logical thinking. You don't need a phd but get your basic probability theory down.

I'd recommend candidates to brush up on their knowledge of the markets and to follow/ invest in companies and try to understand what drives prices

Good night sleep always always helps.

Brush up on your quick math skills and probability knowledge. don't stress out if you don't immediately see the answer to a question. A lot of the interview process is about talking through problems together and seeing how you approach situations.

The number one piece of advice i have for candidates is to be aware of and demonstrate an interest what's going on in the world. Knowing not only what's on the front page of the newspapers, but also how that may impact financial markets goes a long way, as those sorts of skills are are the crux of what we do on a day to day basis.

Have a good intuitive understand of how probability works, no niche stats knowledge is required, you just need to be able to apply concepts to situations.

Explain thought processes clearly and take time, accuracy is weighted over speed.

It's good to build broad experiences before you start looking for an internship or grad role. you can build your soft skills and leadership experience through clubs and societies. don't limit yourself, apply and give it a go. For technical - it's better to do something simple better than complex worse. Explain all your reasoning and stay calm. Leave time at the end to outline any strengths and weaknesses with your response and explain how it could be improved with more time/planning. for behavioral - treat it like a respectful conversation and don't try and lie to impress the interviewers. They're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, genuine and easy to work with.

Make sure to practice your problem solving skills with leetcode or hackerank. Also, do some practice behavioural interviews with your friends. Finally, i recommend interviewing for other companies that are lower on your wishlist before applying to susquehanna so you get more practice before applying. However, it is important to apply to susquehanna as soon as applications open as they accept on a rolling basis.

Do lots of data structures and algorithms preparation. And do some class design practice ahead of the design interview.

Prepare to well explain your interest in trading. Be fluent with live coding and thinking out load. Brush up on oo design and data structure & algorithm.

Study probability and read books on decision science.

Practice probability, logic questions and mental math. Financial knowledge is barely important.
