Pros and cons of working at The Data School

Pros

  • You get to help people reach their potential.

  • Support and learning opportunities.

  • Professional development - we are encouraged and given time to learn new things and pursue our passion

  • Where to start! The Data School is truly a company of its time: with a horizontal management structure, a culture rooted in knowledge sharing and learning, and a focus on making each of its employees an evangelist in the tools we use, everybody feels both valued and useful. If I had to pick one, however, I would have to say that the opportunities for growth and the general feeling that the company will do everything it can to prepare you for the future is what makes me love going to work every day.

Cons

    • It can feel a bit intense sometimes when there is a lot going on. But that's a tonne better than being bored I guess.

    • I don't get to see my coworkers as often as I would like.

    • Beer culture - drinking occurs every week which might put people that do not consume alcohol off.

    • I have to say that there really isn't much I don't enjoy about the company. There is a natural caveat to having a horizontally organized company, where everybody is a consultant working either from home or directly with clients: you have to put in the time to make sure you meet everyone and build ties with your mentors. However, I have found that I spend far more time with my colleagues relative to my friends who work in more traditional companies - a fact that shows how tightly knit we are.

    • Small growing business so lack of process for certain things.
