The role varies based on rotation. Work can involve Site Engineering, Project Management or Detailed Design of Civil Infrastructure. The main focus of the organisation from a civil perspective is dams.

As a graduate much of my role revolves around learning. This includes both technical knowledge and knowledge of Hydro's systems and processes. 6 months in I am beginning to take more responsibility with organising work and carrying it out. The graduate program at Hydro rotates you to different areas of the business. My first rotation is in the Production Engineering team which involves providing engineering support to site teams in order to maintain production. What this looks like is undertaking many different jobs that vary in size and priority and location (opportunities to work all over the different power stations across Tasmania).

Supporting operators in the field to help maintain our highly valuable assets

Machine balancing; refurbishment of assets; machining drawings; hydraulic control design and troubleshooting; commissioning of assets; asset condition assessment...

Depends on the day, some days will be conducting inspections in the field, to working with my hands in the field, to sorting through data in an office, to modelling and designing

My work is varied and changes a lot. From helping field staff with diagnosing issues, to being out on site proving the performance of equipment. Some days I am bored because some work does not seem useful, or is just not engaging or challenging enough to keep me focused. Very little design work, which as a mechanical engineer is a bit sad because that is what I love doing.

I am very satisfied with my Day-to-Day responsibilities and my role. I would want to be part of more innovative and latest tech.
