Northrop Grumman Australia Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Defence & Aerospace

You might know that our Mission is to solve our customers’ most challenging problems across Space, Aeronautics and Mission critical systems to help safeguard Australia’s future. What makes us really different, though, is that as part of one of the World’s largest Defence organisations, we have access to capabilities and technology most can only imagine. And, here in Australia, we’re growing so there are plenty of opportunities especially for those just starting out in their careers and looking for experience in a friendly, supportive and challenging environment. Here, everyone contributes and everyone matters!

Perhaps best known for providing Sustainment and Modernisation services to the RAAF for over 20 years, we have been delivering long term support for the KC-30A Multi-Role tanker Transport, C-27J Spartan and Special Purpose Aircraft fleets. However, we are also bringing to Australia the latest technology in unmanned vehicles through the Triton program. And our major captures include the JP9102 Satellite Communications System - a key part in Australia’s growth in the space infrastructure of tomorrow. Space is one of the most exciting industries to be a part of and Northrop Grumman is leading the way.

Defining Possible is our mantra and we are committed to making sure that works for our people’s careers too. What’s Your Possible?

Recruitment Process

  • Applying on our website, including a CV and 1 page Cover Letter to an advertised role or expression of interest. A cover letter is crucial as we want to know, “why us?”
  • You will receive a call or email from one of our friendly recruitment team to talk through your application. From here, our recruitment team will organize you to attend one of our assessment centres (interns) or an interview (graduates).
  • An interview or assessment will take place with your manager and someone else from that team. We want to know what behaviours and interests make you suitable for Northrop Grumman, and to see if we are suitable for your career aspirations.
  • A recruitment representative or your hiring manager will give you a call to let you know if you are successful or unsuccessful.
  • If you are successful, a HR representative will then reach out to you to discuss your onboarding and provide a warm welcome to Northrop Grumman.

Our recruitment process can be lengthy for successful applicants, as we need strong security checks to let candidates close to our secure technology. Therefore, any candidates MUST have an Australian Citizenship to apply. We are excited to hear from you soon!

Remuneration & Career Growth

Our salary ranges are devised upon the industry standard and your experience levels. We maintain ongoing salary growth within your salary band as you develop.

As we have several extremely unique and exciting projects at Northrop Grumman, we are very open to project rotations. This is so you can potentially work on launching satellites into space one month, to designing missile identifying radars the next. This process is designed on ad hoc basis to suit your interests and our business requirements.

We take performance and talent management very seriously at Northrop Grumman. If you are a top performer you may gain a promotion within your first 12 months. If this is a goal of yours, we will clearly identify this with you in your development plan as you commence.

We support sideways (project rotations), diagonal (promotion into a different project) and upwards (promotion within the same project) career development.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Lots of challenges, in my area there are a lot of opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and add to your skillset. There's also lots of opportunities to utilise previously learned skills. You're encouraged to speak up if processes don't make sense, and there isn't any backlash if you speak up either.
  • The opportunity to be exposed to defence level environments and the processes that are involved. Additionally, the exposure to the multitude of projects available at NGA.
  • I've been exposed to lots of different work at an early level.
  • The people! The culture at NGA is nothing but supportive. We face challenges together and help each other out when needed.
  • The people and general culture are great to work around. Lots of support provided for career growth and progression.
  • Given that it is quite small, the strategy for progression and development for interns and grads is very different person to person. This includes compensation, further education as well as opportunities to participate in other teams. A lot of it relies on your own dedication and pushing, which isn't great. They are working on their development strategies, however it is still in early stages.
  • In the ever-changing world coming out of COVID, communication can still be a large detriment within NGA. With undefined areas between managers and their workers. Especially when assigned inter-state relationships. Often time, I myself have to assign work due to the conflicting schedule of my manager. Despite best efforts to try and specify time, it does not match the response rate that one achieves in person.
  • I don't have great visibility of career plan or career development.
  • We are still maturing as a business to grow our policies and procedures.
  • Not always particularly transparent on internal career progression
