The mentorship I have experienced during my time at Oliver Wyman has been invaluable. A support network is provided to everyone at Oliver Wyman which provides advice, guidance and support on a regular basis.

I was very fortunate to have a close friend of mine begin his career at the Oliver Wyman Sydney office. Through him, I was able to learn more about Oliver Wyman’s ways of working, growth trajectory and broader positive social impacts. Now, I am extremely fortunate to be able to experience these aspects first-hand as a Consultant in Oliver Wyman’s Sydney office.

Guidance, Personalised Trainings and New Friendships Forged

In my opinion, the most exciting part of starting at Oliver Wyman is taking part in the Singapore-based New Consultant Training (NCT). The two-week training program was an exceptional way to connect with new starters from around the Australia-Pacific region and upskill on relevant tools of the trade. Through NCT I was able to make friends with colleagues in Singapore, Japan, Greater China, Indonesia and Malaysia - all of whom I am still in touch with today. Aside from meeting colleagues from the region, the training itself was exceptional. I was pleased to see that Oliver Wyman did not take a one-size-fits-all approach to training. Firstly, they gauged our experience level with Excel, PowerPoint and Python and asked specific questions to understand what the gaps in our knowledge were. Secondly, they created a personalised training program for us to bridge the gaps in our current toolset so that everyone starts on a level-playing field. Thirdly, we were guided through work-related exercises to further our skills in these tools using relevant case studies. All of this learning was mixed in with ample opportunities to socialise and mingle with colleagues in a fun and productive environment.

Flexibility and Work-Life Balance

Another standout has been learning about the Oliver Wyman ways of working. Before every project, the team will get together to have a candid conversation to understand how everyone’s preferred working styles, commitments outside of work and what flexibility they would like to see on the project. It was amazing to experience how accommodating the team is to translate these conversations to actions during the project to provide a healthy work-life balance over the course of the project.

Mentorship and Support Network

The mentorship I have experienced during my time at Oliver Wyman has been invaluable. A support network is provided to everyone at Oliver Wyman which provides advice, guidance and support on a regular basis. Navigating through any new working environment can be difficult, however, Oliver Wyman takes great care in making sure that new-starters feel supported through the whole journey.
