What the role is all about:
We’re looking for talented grads wanting to work with a bunch of legends to make the impossible possible. Software Development is a huge part of our culture and although the company has grown in size, our staff still share a start-up mentality.
Our 12-month rotational Graduate Program will have you embedded in Agile teams where you will be exposed to all aspects of our technology business with a focus on software development. Our graduate program aims to mentor, coach and develop you by giving you opportunities to learn relevant skills.
Life at REA as a Software Developer and Engineering Grad is diverse. You will gain exposure to cutting-edge technology, languages & best practices like modern Ruby and Functional Programming with Scala. You will learn about new and emerging practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD) and work on a range of projects from new web and mobile apps & products to core teams like Data Services and get exposure to our DevOps teams working on AWS architecture and CI/CD pipelines.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for that special spark! People with passion and values that mirror our own. You’re also a good fit if you’re hungry to learn new programming languages and technologies. In this sense, we’re looking for:
- Someone who can apply deep analytical thinking to solve complex problems
- You love writing code
- A growth mindset - it's not about what you know but how you learn

- You are driven to do something which makes a difference - i.e. get that product shipped!
- You have recently completed or will complete before February 2024, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a technical boot camp

Undoubtedly the best thing about working at REA Group is the culture. Socially the type of people working there are the best of the best, whilst being really sociable and the learning culture riddled throughout day to day work is strongly supported.
There are a lot of learning opportunities available. The work is diverse and generally quite interesting The people you work with are skilled and mostly very kind.
Great culture, inclusiveness and a lot of opportunities to learn. Also being able to work on projects that follow really good software development practices.
Internal training. Company culture. Autonomy and trust to get objectives done. Can pursue other adjacent special interest areas. Opportunities to move around the company to different areas and fields.
The culture is great - space to grow and focus on self development. Diverse and welcoming people. Great work life balance.

Cons
Worst thing about REA Group is probably the size of the company as a graduate whilst working from home was very challenging during COVID. It's hard to have any real understanding of the business as such a large company whilst rotating through smaller teams.
Too many meetings sometimes.
Getting larger, with scaling comes more corporate structure but still good at allowing individuals to grow.
The fact that it is a large company. There is something like 800 people just working in the Melbourne office. It's impossible to know them all and sometimes that makes it hard to know who the right person to reach out too for certain tasks is.
