The Royal Rehab Story

We would like to acknowledge the Wallumedegal of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders both past and present.

Royal Rehab evolved from humble beginnings in 1899 with a compassionate and pioneering woman Susan Schardt. At just 27 years of age, Susan, who was blind from birth, helped a man with disabilities who was destined to be homeless by finding him accommodation and care. Throughout the decades that followed over 61,000 people have turned to Royal Rehab – Australia’s leading provider of rehabilitation and disability support services.

Highly regarded for our specialist expertise in brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, Royal Rehab is also renowned for supported accommodation services, our private hospitals and community services delivering holistic quality care.

Born from the compassion of one remarkable woman over 120 years ago, Royal Rehab continues to enrich the lives of the people it serves.

Our skilled multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals support people to achieve as much independence and quality of life as possible. This includes assisting people to adjust to changed abilities, relearn skills and gain new ones, and reintegrate into their homes and the community.

We are motivated by our vision - a world without limits for people with disability, illness and injury.

We recognise everyone’s circumstances are different, and independence comes in many forms. Each person’s individual goals mean everything to us as we work together to discover what is possible.

We warmly welcome you to discover more about Royal Rehab.
