I continue with the analysis of online access level problems. I save important data steps to ensure I am ready to continue with the analysis tomorrow. I debrief with my Team Leader on my initial findings in the data.

8.15 AM

I arrive at the office ready for a big day. I check my calendar and see that I have a few meetings and a presentation to executive stakeholders. The presentation will involve our recent analysis of how culturally and linguistically diverse customers are using the agency’s digital services. I check my emails for any new tasks and any potential professional development opportunities.

8.30 AM

I prepare for my presentation scheduled for 9 am. I plan how to make sure I can communicate the more technical terms to stakeholders with a non-data background. I’m a little nervous but excited to present the results of the project. I have put in a lot of effort but I know I have the support of my Director and Team Leader.

9.00 AM

It’s time for the presentation! I present the findings so the results of our analysis can drive change for customers. I identify some locations across the country where customers use our apps or online channels less. I present some ideas on how to help reach customers in these regions.

10.00 AM

The presentation goes well and I have now started to look into our new analysis piece. This involves the digital usage of customers who have a lower online access level. I work with my Team Leader to plan how to go about the analysis and what we want to investigate.

10.30 AM

It’s time for our daily meeting with our section. It’s great to see the different work and how it’s driving changes to the way Services Australia operates. I give my update and we have our weekly icebreaker question. This is a great way to build relationships in the team.

11.00 AM

I begin working on the new analysis piece. I start identifying what data sources we will need and what outputs we want to create. I begin pulling information from extremely large sets of data to reach these objectives.

12.30 PM

It’s lunchtime and time for a rest after my busy morning. I got together with a few friends from the agency that I have met thanks to the graduate program. Hanging out with these people and hearing what work they are doing is one of the highlights of my week.

1.00 PM

Back from lunch, I continue to work on the analysis piece. I write different queries and code to manipulate raw data into something that will be useful to work with in the future. I also need to debug any issues that may arise.

2.30 PM

I have a meeting to discuss the graduate data network project I volunteered to do. Here we are looking into barriers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff in the Australian Public Service face. The project allows me to work with graduates from different agencies and hear about the work they do. This also lets us build cross-agency relationships.

3.30 PM

I continue with the analysis of online access level problems. I save important data steps to ensure I am ready to continue with the analysis tomorrow. I debrief with my Team Leader on my initial findings in the data.

4.15 PM

The day was long and busy, but rewarding. I pack up and go to the bus stop. I reflect on how my work has the potential to help everyday Australians. I take the time on the bus to wind down after a big day.
