The WSP story

WSP is one of the world's leading professional services consulting firms. We are dedicated to our local communities and propelled by international brainpower. We are technical experts and strategic advisors including engineers, technicians, scientists, planners, surveyors and environmental specialists, as well as other design, program and construction management professionals. We design lasting solutions in the Transport & Infrastructure, Property & Buildings, Earth & Environment, Water and Mining & Energy sectors as well as offering strategic Advisory, Engagement & Digital services. With approximately 54,000 talented people globally, we engineer future-ready projects that will help societies grow for lifetimes to come.

The culture

We make extraordinary efforts to attract, develop, engage and retain the best professionals in our fields of expertise because this is what makes us great. We put the highest ethical standards at the centre of all we do. Professionalism is inherent in our offering. We are humble and act with moral and intellectual integrity, keep our word, treat everyone with respect, support our colleagues, and embrace diversity. We care about individuals and their progress and offer the most fulfilling career development for our professionals.

We aim “to create a workplace that is free from discrimination and offers equal opportunities, based on merit, in all areas of employment, recruitment, training and promotion”.

In Australia, WSP’s diversity council is focused on “diversity training, communications and engagement, flexible working, increased female participation in leadership roles, employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, salary parity and setting integrated diversity performance indicators”.

Social contribution

WSP combines its technical expertise and “understanding of the legal and financial drivers” to help its clients “improve performance across social, economic and environmental aspects of their business”. This can yield results such as emission and carbon footprint reductions, improved stakeholder engagement and the more efficient use of resources.

In addition, our comprehensive approach to Corporate Social Responsibility sits under the banner of WSP with HEART. In alignment with our purpose to help our communities thrive and our Guiding Principles, it is our CSR to do business in a responsible manner. WSP with HEART is a framework that will allow us to:

  • Deliver on our commitment to sustainable communities.
  • Delivering Net Zero: WSP is committed to halving the carbon footprint of our designs and advice by 2030.
  • Indigenous Participation:  We exist to create equitable, inclusive and sustainable societies for today and future generations.

The vibe of the place

WSP seeks to recruit “talented, supportive, friendly and open people”. People who “thrive on what they do and value a strong team dynamic”. In Australia, there is an energetic social committee that organises regular get-togethers. Most staff say the upbeat, collegial culture is one of the best things about working at WSP.

Recruitment Process

WSP Changemakers question what's possible and challenge the status quo. We are a group of passionate and collaborative people working together to have an impact greater than the sum of our parts. United by a shared ambition, we create a better future and are eager to put our expertise to the task.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Social Events - Network with same team and people from other teams Pathways - Professional development Managers - Best in mentoring Graduate Program
  • Work-life balance, friendly and supportive coworkers and managers
  • Flexibility within the team (WFH, work from other offices, etc) Interesting and challenging project work for learning and development Great work life balance and social work events
  • Access to working on some of the biggest and most exciting projects, great team culture, easy get assistance from some of the best engineers in the country, access to high end engineering software, flexibility in working from home (provided with a laptop etc)
  • Abundant training resources, exposure to projects to develop the knowledgebase. Structured program to end as a autonomously working professional. Good mentorship and guidance from senior team.
  • Can sometimes be overly busy
  • The size of the company and occasional impersonality
  • I work at a consultancy and so the workload can be really up and down - this is just the nature of the role not necessarily just the company. Some weeks I am really busy (which I don't mind) and other weeks I feel as though I contribute very little to the team. I also struggled with working from home during lockdown, but my company were very supportive of that and encouraged me to take time for my mind or to socialise (with colleagues or beyond) as I needed it.
  • Pressure from responsibilities and tight timelines, can feel overwhelming at times, thrown into "the deep end" occasionally
  • Filling time sheets are putting me in a pressure to use time very wisely but for starters it can be a problem, I am struggling to find billable work right now.
