LGBTQ+ at Australian Taxation Office (ATO)

As an employee at the ATO, you can join a range of diversity employee networks which bring together employees with shared interests in a safe space.

We’re a proud supporter of LGBTI+ inclusion in our workplace!

The diversity of our staff is one of our greatest assets, and we embrace this. We’re committed to creating a workplace where all staff are supported, valued and respected.

As part of the ATO’s 2024 Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, we are proud to have appointed SES Diversity Champions for all diversity and inclusion focus areas, including three LGBTI+ Champions and a LGBTI+ Ally Champion, who represent and advocate for diversity and inclusion throughout the organisation.

We have a strong employee network group for LGBTI+ employees and allies called ATOMIC (ATO Making Inclusion Count), which has more than 2,500 members across Australia. The network provides a forum to raise issues affecting LGBTI+ employees and all aspects of LGBTI+; visibly drives LGBTI+ workplace inclusion to promote a culture that is respectful, supportive and equitable.  ‘

As an ATOMIC member you will receive quarterly newsletters and be invited to special interest meetings and networking events. Our offices across the country have ATOMIC representatives who drive the ATO’s participation and celebration in annual events such as Wear it Purple Day and International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

The ATO is a member of Pride in Diversity and has been recognised as an Australian Workplace Equality Index Gold Employer four times, and have attained Platinum status.
