KPMG Australia Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Accounting & Advisory

What it does: KPMG is one of the ‘Big Four’ professional services firms. They provide audit, tax and advisory services to organisations across a wide range of industries, government and not-for-profit sectors.

Staff stats: KPMG operates in 147 countries and have more than 227,000 people working in offices around the world. In Australia, they have approximately 9000 people, including over 400 partners, located in 13 offices around the country.

The good bits: KPMG's Graduate Program offers an excellent learning and development pathway that supports you with ongoing training, structured development programs and dedicated mentors from one of three flexible working hubs – home, office or client. They also offer a Vacationer program for students in their penultimate year and a Foundations program for students in their pre-penultimate years.

The not-so-good bits: Whilst the well-being of their people is the number one priority, the hours can sometimes be longer in busy periods but during those times the entire team works together as one collaborative group and support each other.  Outside of busy periods, this is balanced out by taking the time to celebrate achievements as a team.

About KPMG

We’re a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services across a wide range of industries, government and not-for-profit sectors. We came into being in 1987, when a variety of accounting firms in London, Amsterdam and New York, came together in one of the 1980’s largest ‘mega-mergers’. We provide a full range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of the mid-sized, fast-growing and family-owned businesses.

At KPMG Australia, we work with organisations across the nation’s industrial, governmental, and not-for-profit landscapes. We help our clients to solve complex challenges, optimise opportunities, steer change and accelerate sustainable growth. Our service areas include Audit, Assurance & Risk Consulting, Deals, Tax & Legal, Management Consulting, and Innovation & Digital Solutions.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people are very welcoming and the general vibe when working in the office (or even at home) is positive and encourages collaboration.
  • Working with supportive team members, having a variety of tasks, great office, opportunities to do things outside of work specific tasks (e.g. group activities, volunteering, events...)
  • Everyone (including managers and those in positions above) is very approachable. It is very easy to network. I am surrounded by a variety of different people with different skills and experiences. The office is modern, clean and enjoyable. There are several events run for graduates. There are opportunities to get involved in engaging internal work.
  • The amount of variability in the work is fantastic. Not once in my time so far have, I done the same job more than once and every day in the office is different. You also get great exposure to so many different industries which provides the opportunity to learn every day. Further, the other best part about working for KPMG is the social element it provides. There are committees dedicated to putting on events and ensuring that you meet and network with others. The people are also fantastic and always provide a safe environment to make mistakes, learn and thrive.
  • The best aspect of my role is the opportunity to engage in impactful strategic work alongside supportive colleagues who are always willing to lend a hand. The flexibility of my work schedule allows me to operate within timeframes and conditions that best suit my needs.
  • Consulting has a bit of a learning curve and can seem overwhelming at times; however, there is plenty of support to assist.
  • The pace can accelerate or slow down significantly depending on the market.
  • Remuneration could be better.
  • Working overtime during the busy season.
  • Long hours at times when something may be due, but for the most part there are no downfalls.

Just because you’ve started full-time work, this does not mean you need to give up what you love. Work and/or study are just one part of what we do – take the opportunity to pursue whatever else may motivate you.
