Pros & Cons

  • Variety of projects, opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Super good company culture and interesting projects giving great opportunity to develop a range of skills.
  • The people and breadth of experience. You get the opportunity to learn from a range of knowledgeable people across a range of industries.
  • Everyone is very passionate about their work and keen on helping each other. There is a very supportive culture and as a graduate, I feel very welcomed. The diversity of people and the projects you get to work on are also very exciting.
  • The culture here is absolutely amazing. Of all the 4 or 5 interviews I did at the Big 4 and the big three management consulting firms, I just really, really found the interview and recruitment process at KPMG stood out. The recruiters and interviewers (Partner and Director) really took the time to get to know me, what I wanted, what my goals were. I definitely interviewed the firm as much as the company firm me. So - interview process was really person-centric. The culture now, while working here, is also great. The team gets to know you, is flexible, and you can bring your whole self to work.
  • Has a strong vision, values, and sense of purpose at a corporate level of working to create a better Australia.
  • The culture, environment and workplace. A good team and supportive seniors make work enjoyable and provide opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Occasional expectation to work additional hours when you have a tight deadline. Not very often though and the management team are understanding if you have prior commitments.
  • Being such a large organisation, it can sometimes be difficult to navigate who to reach out to for assistance with more administrative tasks.
  • The initial months were slow for workflow - expected as a graduate, however.
  • A lot to learn quickly, thrown in the deep end a little (this isn't entirely a bad thing though)
  • The worst thing is that I am not equipped with the skills to excel at my current position, but I am learning as much as possible every day.
  • Nothing so far. Some tight turnaround times but nothing out of the ordinary. I hear workload increases significantly as you progress, but as far as I can tell, there is plenty of support provided.
  • There can be tight deadlines that are non-negotiable.

Management regularly discusses with me on progression for promotions, typically taking place annually in July. In my current role, promotion involves gaining further experience, producing quality work, demonstrating business development/relationship building skills and being able to train new hires effectively.

Culture
The culture is fantastic, everyone I have come across so far has had nothing but good things to say, which has aligned with my first impressions of the organisation. People seem to really care about the welfare and the firm clearly takes its approach to people management seriously by continually showing employees that they're more than just a number.

Diversity

Diversity
There is a very clear and consistent effort to maintain and promote diversity in the workplace, which is reflected in the policies, initiatives and general culture of the company. They have helped drive improvements in parental leave policy nationwide which is reflected in their own policy. There is a clear recognition of the fact that diversity in the workplace improves results.

Management
Extremely satisfied. All of my managers make themselves available for me whenever required while also allowing me autonomy in how I complete my work. They conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism and I strive to conduct myself in a similar way if given the opportunity in a future role. My managers regularly discuss with me my performance/recognition and show a genuine interest in my development.

Office Work Environment
The office space is incredible and was definitely an attractive selling point when thinking about which company I would go with. It is located right in the city. The dress code is really dressed for your day (within reason), it is expected that you wear neat formal clothes when meeting with clients or in external meetings however if you are in the office and working internally you can wear anything you wish (within reason - nothing exposing, inappropriate or messy).

Recruitment
Out of all the companies I applied for, KPMG was the most prompt and efficient. All the information I needed was ready and available online. The recruitment steps were set out very clearly on the website. It was also very helpful to have the interview dates published online - this allowed me to take a day off my studies/work well in advance. Other companies gave me a week's notice or sometimes a few days and this made it difficult to arrange a day off work. The KPMG staff who initiated the assessments were very friendly. The assessments were set up in a way that made me feel relaxed and calm. Everyone in the group assessment was very friendly (this could have been a fluke with the dynamics of the group). We worked together as a team and it was a positive experience (even though we were in a sense competing for a spot in the same company). Other companies I interviewed at didn't really set up the assessment environment to be calm or relaxing. I didn't always have a positive experience at other places. Most of the other companies had very complex assessments which require lots of preparation and candidates weren't encouraged to problem solve in a collaborative manner which lead to dominating and aggressive behaviors towards other candidates. I appreciate KPMG did not require us to do homework/research prior to the group assessment. When you are given the scenario on the day it requires you to think authentically and be yourself as you cannot prepare. And I believe this also provides an opportunity to see how candidates really communicate and problem solve with others. The app I downloaded before the group activity was helpful. It had lots of information on there. The interview after the group interview was very positive and friendly. I felt at ease throughout the whole process. I can proudly say KPMG provided the best recruitment experience. I applied for all the Big 4 and many other companies. I also think KPMG increases their talent pool by not restricting its graduate program to an undergraduate degree. Having a post-graduate qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and master’s degree provides additional skills and transferable skills from previous jobs. Some companies restrict graduate roles to an undergraduate qualification which leaves a large portion of highly skilled individuals with a limited number of graduate employment opportunities. Well done KPMG for widening your talent pool!

I think the Grad pay package is a solid starting point for an entry-level role. Progression is clear.

Training
There's a lot of training on offer, especially for graduates who are just kicking off their careers. Sometimes it may be overwhelming because there's so much to learn, but most of the training has been structured fairly well and are beginner-friendly. I've picked up skills ranging from technical, like cloud computing, to soft skills, like presenting and networking.
