Sophia Clark

I gather and organise more data, piecing together a story that reveals the progression of claims for large catastrophe events over the years. And let me tell you, my Excel skills have levelled up big time for this gig.

6:30 AM

I really wish I could be a morning person, but I physically and mentally Just. Can’t. Do. It… So I ever so slowly get out of bed, get ready, hop on the train and chuck on my headphones only to stare out the window for the next hour. Nice views though.

8:56 AM

I’ve timed my morning routine and train schedule to the tea so that I arrive in the office just before 9. I’m currently on my brokerage rotation at DKG over in North Sydney learning all about the broking side of the insurance industry. After I do my round of hello’s to the team, I settle at my desk, boot up my laptop, and proceed to check my calendar and emails.

I think it’s time for a coffee! Taking charge of the coffee run this time, I grab the teams’ orders and a colleague and head to our usual place. The great thing about the city is that you’re never low on coffee shops and there’s always new places to try!

The team schedules a meeting, so we head off to a room and discuss the progress each has made with their clients and document it on a simple spreadsheet. Given the team's current high workload, these weekly meetings play a pivotal role in ensuring everyone remains aligned and capable of performing their duties efficiently.

Now, off to the kitchen, I go on a mission to snag a snack. Reception kindly provides all the goods, and boy, do they deliver! Some snacks are quite tempting but I’m being good today and opting for a healthy choice, as I reach for my apple and peanut butter combo. By the way, the kitchen's not just about the food—it’s the perfect place to acquaint yourself with those on your floor.

12:00 PM

I click away at the keyboard as I help edit a contract wording that is urgently needed.

12:30 PM

Time for lunch! I often bring last night’s leftovers, but there are so many great spots that my leftovers can be left for another day! For today, I join my colleagues and like everyone else, ordered the pie of the day - and there was not one single regret.

Once I’ve finished thinking about how great lunch was, I transition my focus towards an upcoming presentation I've been working on for a major Australian insurance company. I gather and organise more data, piecing together a story that reveals the progression of claims for large catastrophe events over the years.  And let me tell you, my Excel skills have levelled up big time for this gig. During this process, I constantly seek input from my knowledgeable and encouraging team members, who always offer valuable insights.

3:30 PM

The other graduates and I convene to talk about our end of year presentation - the grand finale. It’s been a month-long grind of us chipping away at it, dividing responsibilities for specific sections, engaging with experts, and participating in enlightening seminars so that we have a thorough understanding of our topic. It’s also nice to check in and update each other on our rotations.

5:00 PM

I leave the office and walk to the station, absorbing the diverse range of entertainment Town Hall presents.

6:13 PM

I arrive home, and I’m welcomed by my dog. I shower, hop into comfy clothes, eat dinner, and throw on a show. Doing so transforms my family and I into enthusiastic commentators (especially if it’s Britain’s Got Talent or the footy).

9:00 PM

It is now time to undergo my elaborate skincare routine. I pretend I’m in one of those vogue tutorials, as I gracefully apply my serums – its quite therapeutic. Eventually, I pack my bag for tomorrow, plan my outfit and give my dog a few extra cuddles.

10:30 PM

As I wind down, I make some plans for the weekend with a few friends and do a little scroll on social media, before setting my alarm, and eventually falling asleep.
