Who is Steadfast and what sets us apart?

In 1996, Steadfast Group (Steadfast) opened its doors with 43 brokerages and an ambition to provide independent general insurance brokers with enhanced buying power and scale when dealing with suppliers.

Today, the Group owns or has equity in over 100 companies and is the largest general insurance broker network and the largest group of underwriting agencies in Australasia, with growing operations in Asia and Europe.

Steadfast was founded on the belief that a network of brokers would be stronger together, and this idea has been the backbone of our culture ever since. We believe that none of us is as good as all of us.

Steadfast has three business units primarily focused on the intermediated general insurance market. By working together, our three business units empower Steadfast to serve our main goal – ensuring our brokers provide their clients with exceptional service and superior products.

At Steadfast we are proud of our diverse mix of people and skills, coming together across multiple businesses to not only support our broker network but to create innovative technologies that will drive the insurance sector forward.

We are leaders of the general insurance broking industry, and we lead from the front. Our people, our global strength, our local knowledge, our scale, and our breadth of capability are just some of the things that set us apart.

Steadfast’s Corporate Social Responsibility

Steadfast’s long-term sustainability is enhanced by our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and by our focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations. It is a strategic priority for Steadfast to build a culture that supports and enables us to achieve our purpose, vision, and strategy ethically and responsibly.

Our efforts to maintain a strong Corporate Social Responsibility framework and Environmental, Social, and Governance contributions embody this sentiment. Some of our standards and commitments include:

  • Currently, in its tenth year of operation, the Steadfast Foundation donates to renowned charities throughout the year
  • In 2020, the Sydney Office transitioned to Light Emitting Diode (LED) and now operates on 100% green energy
  • As part of the company’s Reconciliation Action Plan, Steadfast collaborated with Career Trackers to recruit First Nations undergraduates in the Steadfast Internship program
  • Steadfast was recognised as a finalist for ‘Best Graduate Development program’ at the Australian HR Awards 2021
  • In 2021, Steadfast announced its sponsorship of Landcare Australia’s 2021 State and Territory Landcare Awards and the 2022 National Landcare Awards in support of Landcare Australia’s mission
  • Aspire Women in Leadership Program was launched to develop Steadfast female insurance brokers and cultivate their potential to become future business leaders
  • In preparation for greater international travel, Steadfast has initiated a Green Travel Policy to reduce company carbon emissions and consciously opt for sustainable travel

What Graduates Say About Them
  • It is a great environment to learn in. There are so many different teams who are always willing to share their expertise and provide you a glimpse into their work. There are also many opportunities to upskill and join training programs for learning new skills or things about the company.
  • The company culture at Steadfast has truly stood out during my time here. As a recent graduate, corporate culture can sometimes feel overwhelming, but Steadfast has managed to cultivate an inviting and positive environment that nurtures individuality and personal growth. During my rotations, I've valued the opportunities provided, the inclusive company culture, and the flexibility in participating in various events both within and outside the office.
  • I enjoy the culture in Steadfast, everyone is approachable. I have had the opportunity to attend networking events as well as workshops to gain more industry knowledge. The rotations offer a great introduction into the different departments at Steadfast.
  • Steadfast such a great place to work at. The people really make a difference as everyone goes above and beyond to help answer any question you have. This company will support your career development and growth.
  • Culture, flexibility, opportunities
  • In regard to the graduate program, occasionally there is a lack of preparation when joining new rotations, so there is an imbalance of workload during the 3 months.
  • While not necessarily a negative aspect, one observation I've had is that the company's segmentation into different levels can sometimes make it more challenging to connect with new people within the organization. This suggests that there may be opportunities for enhancing cross-functional interactions and fostering a more interconnected company culture.
  • Not a bad thing but it was a little overwhelming starting out as the business model of Steadfast is truly unique.
  • Nothing to say here :)
  • Office set-up is different throughout each rotation

Graduate Success Stories

  • Graduate stories
The most enjoyable thing about my job is communicating with a range of people from different industries and learning about their businesses and processes. The role allows for travel across the country, including regional and metropolitan locations; allowing myself to see parts of the country that I would not otherwise see in an office-centric role.

The coolest thing about working for Steadfast is that I feel that I am working with leading professionals that I can learn from and that they will push me to take on new and challenging opportunities. Not all companies have this support from senior executives, but Steadfast do and that’s what makes them stand out.

We made our way around the corner to see a few more friendly faces from the different Steadfast underwriting agencies like Miramar, Mansions and Procover. It was good to see a few familiar faces from the Steadfast office, catch up and better familiarize myself with their products.

I gather and organise more data, piecing together a story that reveals the progression of claims for large catastrophe events over the years. And let me tell you, my Excel skills have levelled up big time for this gig.
